About this service

Bionics & Myoelectric

Advanced prosthetic technology has come a long way in fifteen years, multi-articulating hands, microprocessor knees, pattern-recognition systems, and direct-skeletal attachment are now real options for the right candidates. But the gap between ‘technology that exists’ and ‘technology that helps you’ is huge, and it’s the gap clinical judgment fills.

We’re proud partners with i-Limb (Össur), Ottobock Bebionic, Coapt pattern recognition, College Park, and other premium manufacturers. But partner relationships don’t drive our recommendations, patient outcomes do. We’ll tell you when an advanced device is the right move and when a simpler, more reliable solution serves you better.

Beyond the device itself, advanced prosthetics demand training. Multi-articulating hands and pattern-recognition systems take weeks to use fluently. We coordinate with OT and PT teams, provide in-clinic training, and stay involved as you live with the device.

Who this is for

Patients we commonly fit.

  • Existing prosthesis users curious whether advanced componentry would meaningfully change their daily life.
  • Recent amputees evaluating whether to start with advanced or conventional technology.
  • Patients with insurance coverage that includes advanced device categories.
  • Patients post-osseointegration surgery needing fitting on the new direct-skeletal attachment.
  • Existing advanced-device users needing service, reprogramming, or replacement.
How it works

Our fitting process.

01

Honest assessment

We evaluate clinical fit and discuss realistic outcomes, including when an advanced device isn’t the right move.

02

Insurance & medical necessity

Pre-authorization with documented clinical need, advanced devices require careful medical-necessity work.

03

Fit, programming, training

Device fit, EMG/programming calibration, and structured training over multiple sessions.

04

Lifetime service

Ongoing programming updates, repair, battery service, and replacement scheduling.

Technology & materials

Why our fittings work.

Pattern-recognition systems like Coapt use multiple EMG channels and machine learning to translate combinations of muscle signals into specific grasp patterns, meaningfully more intuitive than two-channel direct control. Programming is done in our clinic and updated as your muscle patterns and goals evolve.

Frequently asked

Common questions about bionics & myoelectric.

Is a multi-articulating hand worth it for me?
Depends on what you do day-to-day. Patients who use a hand for varied small-object manipulation often benefit substantially. Patients whose work is mostly heavy or repetitive may get more value from a robust body-powered system. We’ll talk through the tradeoff.
How long does insurance approval take for advanced devices?
Typically 2–8 weeks, depending on the plan and the documentation required. We handle the submission and medical-necessity writeups. Some plans require peer-to-peer review with their medical director, which we’ll arrange.
Can you service my advanced device if you didn’t fit it?
Yes. We service i-Limb, Bebionic, Ottobock microprocessor knees, and most other advanced systems regardless of where the device was originally fit. Bring your device records if you have them.
What about osseointegration?
Direct-skeletal attachment is an option for a small but growing patient population. We don’t perform the surgery, but we coordinate post-surgical prosthetic fitting and care with the surgical teams. Discuss with your physician first.
★★★★★
“They didn't push the most expensive option. They pushed the one that worked. After two clinics that sold me upgrades I didn't need, that was a relief.”
